Course Description:
Join us in celebrating the magic of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta by creating a vibrant mixed-media landscape featuring colorful patchwork hot air balloons soaring across the New Mexico sky. Using white cardstock as your canvas, you’ll combine acrylic paint, scrapbook paper, fabric, ribbon, lace, colored pencils, curated images, and other mixed-media materials to design a one-of-a-kind work of art inspired by one of Albuquerque’s most beloved traditions. No experience is necessary, just bring your creativity!
Materials:
All materials are provided, including:
- White cardstock
- Curated landscape, patchwork, and sun & moon images
- Scrapbook paper
- Hot air balloon and patchwork templates
- Acrylic paints, acrylic paint markers, and paint palette
- Paintbrushes
- Colored pencils
- Fabric, ribbon, and lace
- Scissors
- Glue stick and white tacky glue
- Wooden pencils
- Masking tape
- Written and visual instruction sheet
About the Artist:
Muñeca Mistícas is a mixed-media collage artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, whose work draws inspiration from historical artwork and artifacts, Southwestern landscapes, and dreamlike imagery. Her artistic practice explores vintage illustrations, paper crafting, and textiles to create layered visual narratives that connect the past with contemporary expression. In addition to her studio work, she designs and leads whimsical mixed-media workshops for both adults and children.
*This workshop is held in our downstairs classroom, which is not accessible to wheelchairs and some other mobility devices.
